Former Indian opening batsman Aakash Chopra has been named to the Chennai Super Kings' starting XI for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 opener against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

The defending champions Chennai Super Kings will begin their championship defence on March 26 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against the Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Aakash Chopra indicated on his YouTube channel that England all-rounder Moeen Ali might miss the first match of the IPL and adjusted his playing appropriately. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the leading run-getter in the IPL 2022, and New Zealander Devon Conway were his openers.

He went on to say that there are a couple of hitches. Who will be the four overseas for the first match if Moeen Ali is unavailable? He is planning to say, to open with Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad. A left-handed opener will be on the table.

Chopra commented that if Moeen Ali isn't available at No. 3, Robin Uthappa is the next best option. Once Moeen Ali arrives, they will have to reconsider their overseas contingent and decide which path to go. According to his opinion, it's Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, and finally MS Dhoni at No. 7.

Aakash Chopra, a cricketer-turned-commentator who chose all-rounder Shivam Dube as his No.6 for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), believes the all-rounder was a smart buy and that the 15th edition of the league will be a "make-or-break season" for him.

He remarked that Shivam Dube has proven to be a wise investment. This is, in Chopra’s opinion, Dube’s make-or-break tournament. If he doesn't blossom even under MS Dhoni, it's because neither the Royal Challengers Bangalore nor the Rajasthan Royals have done well for him. The narrative can improve if he secures his position there.

Dwayne Bravo, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Chris Jordan, and Adam Milne were also picked as his four bowlers by the former Indian opener. He also added that either Jordan or Bravo will come into the picture, if Deepak Chahar is fit to play in this IPL.
