Brendon McCullum in the race to become England coach

The England Cricket Board (ECB) has sacked head coach Chris Silverwood following the Ashes collapse. England have had no coaches since then. Joe Root then resigned as Test captain. The post of managing director was also vacant. The England Cricket Board (ECB) has appointed Robert Key as the new managing director and Ben Stokes as the captain of the Test team.

This time the English are going back to the old way. They will appoint two separate coaches for white ball cricket and red ball cricket. To that end, the board is already in contact with a number of high profile coaches.

They are keeping an eye on Brendon McCullum as the white ball coach. The England Cricket Board has contacted Kiwi legend Brendon McCullum, according to the popular Daily Mail.

McCullum is currently the head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the most popular franchise in the cricket world. Although he is not able to present the title to the team yet. However, Kolkata Knight Riders played the IPL final in 2021 under his coaching.

Brendon McCullum's career as a player is quite rich. He has played in about 432 international matches in his career. He has scored 14676 runs in 474 innings. Where there are 19 centuries, he has scored 76 half centuries.

Also in red ball cricket, Gary Carsten is leading the race for head coach. The ECB has kept in touch with him. Carsten's list of rivals is also quite heavy. The England Cricket Board has also named Ottis Gibson as its Test cricket coach.

Simon Katich is also in the list . According to the English media, the ECB has set the date for talks with the two. Ricky Ponting and Mahela Jayawardene were also in the race to become coach of England's Test team in the beginning. However, these two have said 'no' to the ECB.
