Virat Kohli is well-known for his
physical fitness and dedication to the game. In the series opener against Sri Lanka at Mohali
last week, the 33-year-old vivacious batsman reached the milestone of 100 Test matches for
India. Kohli has also appeared in 260 One-Day Internationals, scoring 43 hundreds, as well as 97
T20 Internationals and two months of the home IPL in each iteration.
Kohli's batting brilliance is undeniable, even if he is going through a rough patch. He was
bowled for 45 runs by Sri Lankan left-arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya, and the fans gave him a
standing ovation. Before the action changes to Maharashtra for the 15th edition of the Indian
Premier League, he will be trying to end his century drought in the next Test in Bengaluru
After losing the captaincy last year, Kohli would only be seen as a batter for the Royal
Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team. It was also the beginning of Kohli's departure from the Indian
leadership group. Following India's 1-2 series defeat in South Africa last year, he stepped down
as Test captain.
After Kohli's departure, RCB will need to appoint a new captain as they prepare for the next
season. Many supporters want the mercurial star to return as captain, but former RCB captain
Daniel Vettori believes the organisation will hunt for another choice.
Vettori told the media that Virat Kohli will no longer be the captain of the Royal Challengers
Bangalore. That, he believes, is all there is to it. Vettori said that that never works,
especially in franchise or international cricket, in his opinion. It is proper for the captain
to move on once he has been moved on.
Bangalore paid a whopping 7 crore for Faf du Plessis and 5.5 crore for Dinesh Karthik in a
recent mega-transfer. Both of the veteran players, as well as Glenn Maxwell, who has led in the
Big Bash League, can be linked to the leadership role (BBL).
Vettori commented that he believes Kohli, Maxwell, and Du Plessis, as well as Dinesh Karthik,
will be considered the leadership group. He reckons Faf will take Maxwell's place. However, if
they win their first three matches, they might stick with him.
Vettori also stated that Maxwell, in his opinion, has a shorter long-term horizon. In the IPL,
three years is a long time. They'll keep an eye on Maxwell for the next three years, and perhaps
he'll continue to perform as well as he did in the last IPL. They'll account for the reality
that he'll be in charge for three years.
