West Indies could not stand against Bangladesh in the three-match ODI series. Nicholas Pooran got a bitter taste of the whitewash at home. But the team is playing great against India. In the first ODI, the Caribbean lost though went very close to victory.

India set a big target of 309 runs that day. In addition to India's win by 4 runs, captain Shekhar Dhawan was also successful personally. Dhawan played a big role in the team's victory by scoring 97 runs off 99 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes. The Indian captain reached another milestone.

He scored a half-century as the oldest captain in the Indian jersey. Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin's 23-year-old record has been broken. In 1999, at the age of 36 years and 120 days, he scored half a century.

Meanwhile, Dhawan was 36 years and 229 days old on the day he scored his half-century against the West Indies. Another former Indian cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar, dropped to number three on the list as a result of Dhawan's entry in this unique precedent.

Gavaskar scored a half-century in 1985 at the age of 35 years and 225 days. However, Dhawan could have become the oldest captain to score a century if he could score just 3 more runs.
