Royal Challengers Bangalore, the
franchise of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has picked Virat Kohli, who won the Under-19 World
Cup at the age of just 18. The poster boy of Indian cricket has been playing in the RCB jersey
for almost 15 years. No other cricketer in the IPL has been able to play in the same team for so
long.
He started his IPL career as a regular player and later gave leadership to RCB. However, Kohli could not bring the trophy to RCB in any role as captain or player. Asked on a recent TV show how he views the issue and whether he wants to join another team in the future, Kohli said:
''The big thing was that they believed in me. Many teams could take me. But they did not stand by me. No one trusted me. Honestly, I've been thinking about joining another team. I will not deny that proposals came from many places. Many wanted to take me to the team from the auction. At that time, it seemed that no one in the dressing room saw me and said that this boy is an IPL champion or a World Cup champion. ''
Kohli, who has scored 6469 runs in 217 matches for RCB, added: ''If bad, everyone will move away. But then I realized that my responsibility for RCB was much more than hearing the 'IPL champion' call from five people. ''
Kohli added: "I see life this way. Everyone may be appreciated for five minutes, but after that, the discussion on other issues of life will start. So not winning the title does not mean that it is all over! I do not believe it."
