At the IPL 2022 mega auction, Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) paid a whopping INR 12.25 crore for Shreyas Iyer. Iyer was finally elected captain of the club, and in the season's first match, he led his team to a comfortable victory over the Chennai Super Kings(CSK).

His leadership abilities are undeniable, as he twice guided his previous side, the Delhi Capitals, to the playoffs after being chosen captain. He was dismissed by the Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the auction this year because he was hoping for a captaincy role with a squad. Due to his injury, he was forced to miss the first leg of the IPL 2021, and the captaincy was given over to Rishabh Pant.

In an interview with Boria Majumdar for Revsportz, KKR CEO Venky Mysore discussed how the organization had been watching Shreyas Iyer since 2015. He stated that they had been following Shreyas for quite some time. People may recall that they were the first to bid for Iyer when he first entered the auction in 2015, which was actually a mini-auction.

He remarked that Delhi Capitals(DC) put up a valiant fight, and they pushed themselves as far as they could at the moment. So far, Iyer left a lasting impression on them, and they have always desired him.

Mysore commented that when a player is signed by a team and they keep him, the topic of bidding for him doesn't come up. The CEO did, however, bring up the possibility of trade at one time, but it was promptly turned down. However, the fact that he showed up at the auction provided them with an opportunity, and they were prepared with a strategy. They were extremely fortunate, and the entire table roared when they won him.

Mysore also hailed the KKR skipper, calling him an amazing guy who has huge potential as a leader of the pack, and praising Iyer's self-confidence at such a tender age.

The next encounter between KKR and RCB will take place on March 30, 2022, at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
