The Chennai Super Kings seem to have learnt their lessons from last year's defeat. The three-time champions paid a high price for not properly planning IPL 2020, as positive COVID-19 cases hampered their pre-season preparation. 13 members, including two players, tested positive soon after arriving in the UAE.

As a result, the entire CSK team was forced to isolate while the other seven teams concentrated on tournament planning. MS Dhoni and his teammates were hampered by a lack of preparation, as they missed the playoffs for the first time in CSK history. Throughout the season, CSK struggled to maintain consistency. They also worked with team combinations, finishing seventh in the eight-team competition in IPL 2020.

CSK has not only begun their preparations for the IPL 2021 season ahead of schedule, but they have also enlisted the help of many overseas players to ensure that the practice is of the highest calibre. Hardus Viljoen, a fast bowler from South Africa, was seen bowling to the CSK stars in the nets earlier this month. Afghanistan's Noor Ahmad and Fazalhaq Farooqi are the most recent overseas players recruited by CSK as net bowlers.

Noor Ahmad, 16, is a left-arm leg-spinner who has already played for the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash Competition. After being picked by the St Lucia Zouks, the teenager was also scheduled to play in last year's Caribbean Premier League. He was forced to depart from the competition after failing to obtain a transit visa via the United Kingdom.

Farooq, on the other hand, bowls with his left arm. The 20-year-old just recently made his Afghanistan debut. During the recently concluded three-match series in Abu Dhabi, he appeared in one T20I against Zimbabwe. On his debut, he bowled four overs and took one wicket while allowing 27 runs.
