Dew is a 'massive disadvantage' for teams batting first on grounds like the Wankhade
Stadium, according to Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul. He suggested using several balls to
manage this and make the game more 'equal' for the bowling side.
On Sunday, the
Punjab Kings were thrashed by the Delhi Capitals by six wickets. Despite having set a par
total of 195, Shikhar Dhawan's 92 assisted the Capitals in chasing it down with 10 balls to
Dew played a significant role in the chase, as pacers struggled to grip the
bowl despite animatic rubbing with towels. Swamped balls also resulted in some no-balls,
which hurt the safety of the Punjab Kings.
KL Rahul agreed to former New Zealand
pacer Simon Doul's suggestion of periodically adjusting the balls in the second dig during
the post-match presentation. KL Rahul also disclosed that he had requested the same from the
on-field umpires during the game but to no avail.
KL Rahul added to his team's total
with a 51-ball 61. Mayank Agarwal (69 off 36), Deepak Hooda (22 off 13), and Shahrukh Khan
(15 off 5) were also among the top scorers. Jhye Richardson took two wickets with the ball,
while Arshdeep Singh and Riley Meridith each took one.
