With all-rounder Krunal Pandya testing positive for COVID-19, the T20I series between Sri Lanka and India has been abruptly halted for the time being. The second Twenty20 International, which was supposed to take place on Tuesday, has been postponed by a day. Only if the visiting contingent's results are negative will the series restart.

Meanwhile, Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav, who have been named replacements for the forthcoming Test series against England, are likely to be affected by the developments in Sri Lanka. Both players are now in Sri Lanka, and it is unclear whether they are among Krunal Pandya's eight close contacts recognized by medical personnel.

Shaw and Surya are in isolation with the rest of the team, and for the time being, they must at least return COVID negative. It was previously thought that they would arrive in England following the upcoming T20I series in Sri Lanka; however, it remains to be seen whether their presence in England is further delayed.

The isolation period of Krunal Pandya and eight other close contacts is unknown and determined by the COVID strain in question. Furthermore, there are no positive cases in the Sri Lankan camp yet, and they will be checked on Wednesday morning.

The Indian squad is presently residing at Taj Samudra, which has personnel members of the bubble. Professor Arjuna de Silva, who oversees SLC's bubble protocols, that no one from the hotel staff has tested positive and that Krunal's infection is still a mystery.

Meanwhile, the BCCI announced in a statement that the next two T20Is will now be played back-to-back on July 28 and 29, depending on the Indian contingent's results on Tuesday evening.
