ECB want ICC to begin adjudication process of the cancelled Manchester Test match

ECB has requested the ICC to start the adjudication procedure for the cancelled Manchester Test match. The ECB issued a statement two hours before the start of the match, stating that the game had been postponed indefinitely due to the refusal of a few Indian cricketers to participate.

There are two possible outcomes right now. The result shall be declared draw and void if the ICC's Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) determines that the game was cancelled for valid reasons under the ICC's COVID allowances regulations. In that situation, India will take a 2-1 lead in the series.

If it is determined that India forfeited the match, the game will be awarded to the British, bringing the series to a 2-2 tie. Teams are not permitted to play in specific situations during the World Test Championship.

The ECB chief executive, Tom Harrison, had previously stated that the Manchester Test would be cancelled owing to the COVID-19 outbreak. Instead, he indicated that the match was cancelled due to mental health and well-being concerns.

Meanwhile, the apex board will commission a report on the events in Manchester once the adjudication process begins. The report will then be forwarded to Michael Beloff QC, the DRC's chairman, who will evaluate whether the cancellation was made following COVID criteria or if India forfeited the game.

The ECB and Lancashire Cricket will lose millions of pounds as a result of the Test being postponed. The boards are likely to reduce some of the financial harm if the reason for cancelling the match isn't determined to violate COVID criteria.
