Shreyas Iyer is expected to depart from Delhi Capitals ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season, which can only be described as a significant development. Since his IPL debut in 2015, Iyer has been a crucial part of the Delhi-based franchise. Aside from his offensive prowess, the right-handed hitter also demonstrated his leadership qualities.

Iyer took over as captain of Delhi from Gautam Gambhir in the middle of the 2018 IPL season and led the franchise to the playoffs twice, including a first-ever trip in the finals in 2020. In 2021, Iyer was also anticipated to lead the Capitals. However, due to a shoulder injury, the 26-year-old was forced to retire from the first leg. Rishabh Pant was later chosen as the Capitals' captain. Pant continued to lead the team following a solid performance in the first leg in the UAE, while Iyer returned to the lineup.

The organization is unlikely to rehire Iyer as coach after the southpaw led DC to the IPL playoffs in 2021. Iyer's time with the Capitals may come to an end as a result of this. According to a story in The Times of India, the right-handed batsman is eager to take over as captain. As a result, he'd end up in the auction pool, where he may work for another team.

It should be mentioned that the IPL will expand to ten teams next season with two additional teams. Many existing franchises, such as Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bangalore, will look for a new captain. Multiple franchises are interested in hiring Iyer since he is a successful skipper in his own right.

As a result, the batter for DC may go big beneath the hammer. In the meantime, Iyer has stated that he supports the franchise's choice to keep Pant as captain.

Iyer is currently a reserve player for India in the next T20 World Cup in 2021. India will play a white-ball series against New Zealand once the competition concludes. To make a fortune at the auction, Iyer would insist on gleaming in national colours.
