Aaron Finch, the Australian T20 captain, has resigned as captain of the Melbourne Renegades, just days after lifting the T20 World Cup championship.

Nic Maddinson will take over for Finch, who will miss the first few games of the BBL after being selected for Australia A. Finch has been in charge for nine seasons and has opted to stand down to spend more time with loved ones.

Finch said that for the past nine seasons, captaining this team has been a tremendous honour. He added that with a heavy workload building up to the T20 World Cup and a new young family, I figured it was time to hand over the captaincy reins.

The former captain said Maddinson was the ideal captain for the team. Finch commented that one thing he has learned over the years is that leaders require constant infusions of fresh faces. He stated that Maddinson has captained several times at first-class and BBL levels, and I am delighted that he has been given such an opportunity. Finch added that they'll all be on the field to assist and support him, with the ultimate goal of winning the BBL|11 championship.

Finch is under contract with the Renegades till the end of the next BBL season, and has been tipped to lead Australia to a T20 World Cup title defence in 2022, which will be held in Australia.

Maddinson has been put into this position after joining the Renegades from the Melbourne Stars before the BBL season. He stated that it's a fantastic bunch of players, with a mix of young and veteran players, and he is looking forward to it. The new captain commented that taking over from someone as accomplished as Finch is a difficult undertaking, but having him around to assist and act as a sounding board will be a huge assistance. Maddinson added that it is both a privilege and a challenge to him.

With Maddinson out and veteran Shaun Marsh expected to skip the majority of the first few games due to a calf injury, Finch will most likely be in charge of the club early in the season.

Maddinson would require their assistance, according to Renegades coach David Saker. He commented that Nic will be a great captain for the Renegades, with Finchy and senior players like Shaun Marsh and Kane Richardson on his side. The coach is excited for the upcoming event and to see what they can accomplish as a team.

The Renegades kick off their season on December 7 at Marvel Stadium against the Adelaide Strikers.
