The Hobart Hurricanes of the Big Bash League (BBL) have named former England cricketer Ian Bell as their new assistant coach for the league's upcoming 2021-22 season.

Bell, who has featured 287 international games for England in all three forms, was a member of the Perth Scorchers in season 6 of the Big Bash League (BBL), scoring 231 runs in just 10 games. He won the Big Bash League with the Perth Scorchers in 2016-17, and he's back five years later, seeking to lead the Hobart Hurricanes to victory.

The former cricketer has been taking over several coaching jobs since his retirement. He accompanied Daniel Vettori at Birmingham Phoenix and served as a batting coach for England Under-19s during their Caribbean trip. In addition, he was also mentoring the Chennai Braves in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

Following his appointment as an assistant coach, Bell stated that he is looking forward to working with head coach Adam Griffith. Bell commented that The BBL is without a doubt one of the top cricket tournaments in the world, and as a former player, he is excited to get involved as a coach.

During the 2016 Blast, Bell represented Warwickshire in their T20 phase as the Birmingham Bears. Matthew Wade, the Hurricanes' skipper, was one of their overseas players, and two of the Hurricanes' three international newcomers - Jordan Thompson and Harry Brook - are fellow countrymen.

The 39-year-old went on to say that he was privileged enough to win the BBL as a player, but now he hopes to win it as a coach.

He explained that he already learned a lot about the squad since he has either competed with them or appreciated them from afar, and he is confident they have some major potential on their hands. He added that as a player, he was lucky enough to win the BBL, and he would love nothing more than being a minor component in another winning side, this occasion as a coach.

The Hobart Hurricanes will kick off their BBL11 campaign on December 8 against the Sydney Sixers at Launceston's University of Tasmania Stadium.
