Harbhajan Singh, a former India off-spinner, is expected to join the coaching staff of a high-profile Indian Premier League team ahead of the tournament's next season in 2022.

The 41-year-old spinner was with the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2021 but did not play a single game during the season and is rumoured to be contemplating retirement from all forms of competitive cricket.

Harbhajan Singh has 150 wickets at an average of 26.86 from 163 games in the league since its establishment in 2008. Meanwhile, while his exact job with the IPL franchise is unknown, a source close to the situation has stated that he will assist the team in the auction picks. The league's next season will feature ten teams and will be preceded by a mega auction.

Harbhajan Singh, a veteran of 103 Tests, 236 ODIs, and 28 T20Is, has always been drawn to mentoring new players. He formerly played for the two most successful IPL franchises, the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. While with the KKR, he mentored mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, later named India's T20 World Cup squad in 2021.

Venkatesh Iyer, a Madhya Pradesh all-rounder who just made his international debut against New Zealand in a home series, earlier said that Harbhajan had praised him as a strong talent while he was with him in Kolkata Knight Riders.
