Cricket South Africa declared on Monday that supporters will not be permitted at any of the stadiums for the upcoming cricket games between India and South Africa (December 20). Due to an increase in Covid instances in South Africa, the decision was made. The tournament will begin on December 26 and will include three Tests and three One-Day Internationals against South Africa.

According to the CSA, the decision was made jointly by the two cricketing organizations to prevent any disruptions that could jeopardise the trip from a Covid-risk viewpoint, as well as to ensure a hazard-free bubble atmosphere.

Pholetsi Moseki, CSA Acting Chief Executive Officer said that they recognise the enthusiasm exhibited by spectators and other stakeholders in returning to venues, and they want to reassure all cricket supporters that this move was not made lightly, but rather in the best interests of the event and the health and security of all parties involved. As a result, they encourage all sports fans to take extreme caution during these unique circumstances. He would also like to take this opportunity to encourage all South Africans to keep promoting the positive messages and importance of vaccination. He added that this might be the only way to truly restore their country's high economic activity, which will help the country open up the economy and all types of economic operation, including allowing more supporters back into sports arenas.

The Mzansi Super League 2021 edition had been canceled earlier in the evening by the authority. The tournament's third season, which was set to begin in November of last year but was delayed due to the complication with Covid-19, has been rescheduled for February 2022.

In a fourth wave suspected to be predominantly triggered by the Omicron strain, South Africa confirmed a daily COVID-19 case count that set a new high last week.

The board of the CSA four-day franchise series, South Africa's greatest domestic competition, called off the final round just a few days ago, on Sunday.
