After completing his mandated period of isolation after contracting COVID-19, Melbourne Stars captain Glenn Maxwell is back for the match against the ladder-leading Perth Scorchers in Geelong.

However, the Perth Scorchers' experience with COVID has had mixed results, with Jason Behrendorff returning for today's match. Despite this, wicketkeeper-batsman Cameron Bancroft ran late this morning after coming into touch with a suspected COVID-19 case.

Despite producing a negative rapid antigen test result, Bancroft is out of today's match and isolating.

While BBL administrators have been careful not to refer to the relocation of all BBL players and support staff to Melbourne as a 'hub,' they are operating under tighter limitations, with health a top consideration. It is unknown how Bancroft came into touch with a suspected case.

With regular wicketkeeper Josh Inglis with Australia's Test squad in Hobart, the Scorchers are recruiting a replacement wicketkeeper.

As a stopgap measure, the Scorchers are expected to choose between Chris Sabburg and English recruit Laurie Evans, with a trial in the warm-ups to assist head coach Adam Voges in his decision.

Other BBL substitute alternatives include gloveman Jake Doran and Braydon Stepien, but it's uncertain if they'll be able to make it to Geelong in time for the game.

Meanwhile, Behrendorff is back in the lineup after missing the team's last start against the Sydney Sixers on Sunday night. After coming into contact with Colin Munro, who has tested positive for COVID-19, he missed that game as a precaution.

Munro, who has 353 runs and is presently second in the BKT Golden Bat race, remains isolated and recovering from the infection.

Behrendorff has returned to the Scorchers squad after returning numerous negative quick test results and has now been declared not to be a close contact of Munro after their interaction was discovered to be previous to the New Zealander getting the virus.

The KFC BBL has had to reshuffle its schedule, with all teams being transferred to Victoria for the remainder of the regular season.
