On the third day of the last Test in Cape Town, a number of India's stars, notably Virat Kohli, have railed against the host broadcaster in South Africa over the usage of technology.

Ravichandran Ashwin hit Dean Elgar on the pads in the 21st over of the final innings of the match. Meanwhile, South Africa on 60/1 and pursuing 212 to win the tournament, Elgar was given a break on review.

The South African skipper was given out lbw by referee Marais Erasmus. However, the call was reversed on review as ball-tracking showed the ball sliding over the stumps.

HawkEye, an independent technology that sends data to the host broadcaster, in this case, SuperSport, has approved the technology. However, it didn't stop an enraged Kohli from approaching the stumps and speaking through the microphone. Kohli said that keep your attention on their squad while they shine the ball, it's not only the opponents and trying to trap people the whole time.

Vice-captain KL Rahul also commented that it is the whole nation versus 11 of them.

Ashwin responded that they should find alternative ways to score.

Even the on-field umpire was taken aback by the referral, shaking his head and muttering, "That's impossible," as the images were projected onto the stadium's big screen.

In a press conference, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey stated, everyone saw what happened and he will defer to the match referee’s judgment on it. He said that he doesn't have anything to say about it right now; they've seen everything and now they simply want to get back to the match. He commented that everyone out here is giving it their all and people do say various things in situations like these. He believes it is only reasonable that they move on. He added that everyone is putting out their best effort and feelings do play a role from time to time.

After a catch from the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah was ruled not out, India eventually got Elgar on the stroke of stumps, with DRS this time playing in the tourists' favour.

Former South Africa captain Shaun Pollock and India icon Sunil Gavaskar addressed the use of HawkEye towards the end of the game.

Pollock commented that Hawk-eye is a tool that helps the judge make decisions. He said that it has cameras of its own and he understands India’s disappointment since they desired the wicket, but he believes they went a little too far.
