For the 2022 PSL season, the Karachi Kings have signed English batter Ian Cockbain. Cockbain was recruited as a replacement for fellow countryman Tom Abell. Abell suffered a knee injury playing for Brisbane Heat in the BBL, in a mainly English-centric PSL substitution draught.

Cockbain, who only joined the Adelaide Strikers last week - the first overseas T20 league to be played - hit an unbeaten 42-ball 71 earlier today to help his team advance to the BBL playoffs. The 34-year-old bats in the middle order for Gloucestershire and was a member of the Welsh Fire team in the Hundred's inaugural season.

Saqib Mahmood and Liam Livingstone of the Peshawar Zalmi will be unavailable for the start of the PSL on January 27 due to England's five-match T20I series in the Caribbean. Legspinner Matt Parkinson and quick bowler Pat Brown have been recruited in as partial substitutes for Zalmi, who were finalists last year.

Parkinson has never played in a T20 competition outside of the United States. In addition to five ODI and four T20I appearances for England, the 25-year-old has played for Lancashire in the T20 Blast and the Manchester Originals in the Hundred. Brown achieved 31 wickets in the Blast in 2018, earning him an England call-up, but injuries have hampered his progress since then.

The T20I series between England and the West Indies ends on January 30. Mahmood and Livingstone would be quarantined in their rooms for three days after arriving in Pakistan before joining their teams. According to their present itinerary, they could miss up to five PSL matches within that time.

England batter Dan Lawrence was selected as a reserve extra choice by the Quetta Gladiators. On the other hand, Zalmi signed Pakistani medium speed bowler Sohail Khan in that division.

The PSL will take place from January 27 to February 27 and will follow strict bio-security measures. The National Stadium Karachi will host all matches until February 7. Afterward, the remaining matches, including the playoffs and final, will be played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
