Mashrafe Mortaza, a veteran cricketer, has returned to training after a year off ahead of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). However, because to back pain, he was unable to bowl on the first day. Following the doctor's recommendation, he rested for several days. Mortaza, however, re-injured himself on the second day after returning to bowling.

Mortaza suffered a gluteal injury while bowling at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium's academy ground on Tuesday. He was in agony and stopped bowling. The 38-year-old notified his trainer and Minister Dhaka's physiotherapist about his injury. The seasoned seamer is unlikely to be participating for the opening few games of the competition due to the injury.

Mortaza had injections for his back problems and had good results. On Tuesday, he bowled at full run-up. He had to quit after two deliveries.

Mortaza told the media that after the injections, the back pain was almost completely gone. He commented that he was in good shape that day and that was the reason he attempted to bowl at maximum capacity. But he believes he pulled his gluteal muscles when bowling. He added that he tried again, but due to the difficulty, he was unable to bowl. He believes he will be unavailable for the first few games. Mortaza added that it will take a few days to fully comprehend the situation and he will likely to miss the first few games.

The Dhaka team’s physiotherapist – Enamul Haque commented that Mortaza couldn't bowl today because of the soreness in his waist. The management of the team will not take any chances with him. He added that Mortaza’s availability will be determined by his pain level and physical health.

Mortaza began bowling to Tamim Iqbal on Tuesday after warming up. After a few deliveries with a small run-up, he attempted but failed to bowl with a larger run-up. The fast bowler collapsed after the second attempt.

Mortaza last appeared in a competitive match for Gemcon Khulna against Gazi Group Chattogram on December 18, 2020.
