After being named the KFC BBL|11 Player of the Tournament and being recalled to Australia's T20 team, Hobart Hurricanes opener Ben McDermott is exploring a potential IPL signing for the first time.

The right-hander finished three votes ahead of Melbourne Stars duo Glenn Maxwell and Joe Clarke, who both scored 577 runs at a strike rate of 153.86.

He became the first Big Bash player to register back-to-back hundreds in late December, and he came close to completing his fourth career BBL century when he reached 93 against the Brisbane Heat in January.

McDermott, who has never played in the IPL, stated today that if he isn't picked up this year after his Big Bash season, he isn't sure he will ever be.

The 27-year-old has signed up for the IPL's blockbuster auction, which will take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru.

He stated that it's always fascinating to see the outcome and he is looking forward to it. Last year, he remembered Riley Meredith being picked up for the big bucks and sitting in their quarantine rooms in New Zealand, watching him.

McDermott's outstanding season has earned him a call-up for Australia's T20 series against Sri Lanka next month, and he says he is more prepared than ever to move to the next level.

McDermott has played 17 T20Is and two ODIs in his career, with a top score of just 35, with his most recent outing in national colours coming in August during a 4-1 series loss to Bangladesh.

He commented that he doesn’t believe he was ever unprepared to play for Australia, but he does believe he is now. He said that he felt like he is at the pinnacle of his abilities.

He further commented that through some bad encounters, he has gained a lot of knowledge. He is not going to lie, they haven't been pleasant, but he has learned a lot from them, and perhaps he'll be better when he returns.
